Giacomini, Gunes Earn MAAC Weekly Award Honors

HAMDEN, Conn. – Graduate student Elena Giacomini was named the MAAC Player of the Week and Damla Gunes was named the MAAC Setter of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday, October 29th.
Elena Giacomini was awarded Player of the Week honors after accumulating 30 total kills in two matches over the past weekend for the Bobcats, as she recorded double doubles in both games. In the three-set win over Canisius to start the weekend, Giacomini registered 16 kills, 15 digs, three aces, and two total blocks. A day later, Giacomini recorded another double-double with 14 kills and 10 digs to help the Bobcats to their second sweep of the weekend. Giacomini finished the weekend, averaging 5.00 kills per set, 4.17 digs per set, and 5.83 points per set.
Junior Damla Gunes was rewarded for her stellar play over the weekend with MAAC Setter of the Week honors. Gunes recorded a total of 61 assists in the two matches for Quinnipiac as she helped the Bobcats to back-to-back clean sweeps over Canisius and Niagara. In the win over Canisius, Gunes registered 34 assists, seven digs, three total blocks, and one kill. On Sunday, Gunes helped the Bobcats down the Purple Eagles as she recorded 27 assists, and six digs. Damla Gunes finished the weekend by averaging 10.17 assists per set and 2.17 digs per set.
Quinnipiac currently sits in second place in the MAAC with a 9-2 conference mark and a 12-11 overall record this season. The Bobcats will be back in action on Wednesday, October 30th as they will travel to take on the Merrimack Warriors at 7 PM.
