Bobcats Picked as MAAC Favorite in Preseason Coaches' Poll

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's volleyball has been selected as the preseason MAAC favorite, as announced on Friday, Aug. 18 by the league office.
The Bobcats earned the No. 1 spot in the 2023 Women's Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll alongside Marist, with both programs receiving three of 11 first-place votes and 85 total points each.
Quinnipiac saw two student-athletes named to the preseason All-MAAC team, as graduate student Aryanah Diaz and sophomore Ginevra Giovagnoni garnered the honor.
Last season, Diaz enjoyed a breakout senior campaign earning All-MAAC First Team prestige, as well as MAAC Tournament MVP distinction. She notched 12 double-doubles last season and recorded 20 or more kills in three separate matches.
Diaz led the Bobcats with 385 points, 337 kills, 321 digs, and 37 service aces and averaged 3.63 points, 3.18 kills and 3.03 digs per set. She stepped up her play in the playoffs, as she averaged 4.00 points, 4.18 digs and 3.27 kills per set over 11 sets played in the 2022 MAAC Tournament.
Giovagnoni returns for her sophomore season and boasts Preseason All-MAAC honors after a dazzling first-year campaign. In her rookie season, Giovagnoni was named to the All-MAAC Championship team after averaging 4.86 points, 4.27 kills and 4.09 digs per set over 11 sets played in the MAAC Tournament. In those three games, she totaled 53.5 points, 47 kills and 45 digs to help lead the Bobcats to their first-ever MAAC title.
On the season, she recorded 181.0 points, 160 kills, and 152 digs and notched five double-doubles, including three straight during the MAAC Tournament.
Quinnipiac completed its first-ever NCAA Tournament run in the fall of 2022. The Bobcats finished the season with 14 wins, including a seven-game win streak through the end of the regular season and concluding with its first-ever MAAC title in a 3-1 victory over Fairfield.
The Bobcats earned an automatic berth and its first trip to the NCAA Tournament where the Bobcats fell in the opening round against top-seeded Wisconsin.
Quinnipiac's regular season schedule includes nine home contests on Burt Khan Court in Hamden, with the home opener on Sept. 16 against Niagara.
