HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac women's golf head coach John O'Connor has announced the team's captains for the 2023 spring season. Seniors Kaylee Sakoda and Leeyen Peralta have been selected as captains for the program.
"The combination of Kaylee Sakoda and Leeyen Peralta has changed the level at which the golf team competes at Quinnipiac," O'Connor said. "Both Leeyen and Kaylee are fierce competitors that have proven to be a force in the MAAC, having finished first and second in a conference that is quickly becoming very competitive. Both captains are great leaders and teammates that the entire team looks up to."
Earning All-MAAC honors last season, Sakoda averaged 76.35 strokes per round in eight events during the 2021-22 campaign. She earned top-10 finishes in five events and took first place in two. "Kaylee is driven to succeed in everything she attempts and will no doubt have an exciting professional career upon graduation," O'Connor stated. "Kaylee has set numerous scoring records while at Quinnipiac and scored par or better in nine of her 16 rounds this past fall. Kaylee currently holds the record at Quinnipiac for her stroke average of 73.8."
The reigning MAAC Golfer of the Year, Peralta earned All-MAAC honors last season for the second consecutive year. "Leeyen is a gifted golfer that can compete amongst the best golfers in the country," O'Connor added. "Leeyen won the MAAC Player of the Year award, setting the MAAC Championship individual scoring record in the process, while the team set a new team scoring record. Leeyen has the second-best round in the history of Quinnipiac women's golf, shooting 67 at the Low Country Invitational."
The Bobcats open their spring campaign on Feb. 20 as they participate in the Atlantic Invitational at the Indian Spring Country Club in Boynton Beach, Fla.
