BUFFALO, N.Y. – Quinnipiac opens its 2022 MAAC slate this weekend, as the Bobcats head north to Buffalo for road matches against Niagara and Canisius. QU will take on the Purple Eagles on Saturday at 1 p.m., before its bout with the Golden Griffins on Sunday at noon.
THE MATCHUP: vs. NIAGARA
- Saturday's match between the Bobcats and the Purple Eagles will mark the 21st meeting between the two programs
- Niagara owns a 16-4 record over Quinnipiac, however the two sides have split its last six matches
- The last time the two sides matched up, Quinnipiac came away with a four-set victory over Niagara in Hamden on Oct. 24, 2021
- Nicole Legg led the Bobcats with 14 kills in the victory, while Chloe Ka'Ahanui added 28 assists and 21 digs for a double-double
- Niagara enters the contest at 2-7, having lost its last five matches
- Kinga Wronska leads the Purple Eagles with 71 kills through nine matches this season

- Sunday's contest between the Bobcats and Golden Griffins marks the 25th meeting between the two teams
- Canisius is 16-8 all-time against Quinnipiac, but the Bobcats have won each of the last two meetings
- The last time the two side squared off, Quinnipiac downed Canisius in four sets in Hamden on Oct. 23, 2021
- Georgia Tselepi led the Bobcats with 13 kills, while Chloe Ka'Ahanui added 26 assists

- First year Ginevra Giovagnoni's 84 kills on the season ranks eighth in the MAAC, while her 3.11 kills per set sits sixth in the MAAC
- Giovagnoni has led the Bobcats in kills in three matches this season
- Giovagnoni was named the MAAC Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday, Aug. 30
- This was the first weekly award honor for Giovagnoni this season after just two games played
- She combined to tally a team-best 31 kills, 15 digs, two service aces and a block in Quinnipiac's opening matches against Stony Brook and Fordham
- Giovagnoni recorded nine kills, eight digs and two service aces in the Bobcats' opener at Stony Brook
- She followed that performance with a team-high 22 kills with a blistering .409 attack-percentage and seven digs against Fordham
- First year Damla Gunes has made an instant impact for the Bobcats through seven games
- Gunes' 142 assists on the season is tops on the team and ranks seventh in the MAAC
- She has recorded two double-doubles on the season, most recently tallying 18 assists and 11 digs against Delaware State
- She has recorded 30 or more assists twice this season, most recently posting 35 assists in QU's contest against Robert Morris on Sept. 10
- Gunes tallied 55 assists and 12 digs against Fordham on Aug. 27 for the first double-double of her collegiate career
- She is the first player to tally 50 or more assists in a match since Chloe Ka'Ahanui posted 53 assists against Holy Cross on Aug. 27, 2021

- The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24 when they travel to take on Siena

- The Bobcats were selected No. 3 in the 2022 Women's Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll, as announced by the MAAC office on Friday, Aug. 19
- The Bobcats earned one first-place vote and 76 points in the poll, finishing just behind Rider (80 points) and Fairfield (99 points) for the top spot
- Graduate student middle blocker Nicole Legg – Quinnipiac's leader in blocks from a season ago – was named to the Preseason All-MAAC team for Quinnipiac
- The All-MAAC selection from a season ago posted 10 matches in 2021 where tallied 10 or more kills, including a 14-kill outing against Marist on Nov. 6, where she added a career-high 10 blocks for the double-double.
- Head Coach Kyle Robinson enters his fourth season with the Bobcats
- Robinson has led the Bobcats to 28 wins in three seasons and two MAAC Tournament berths
- Robinson has led QU to appearances in the MAAC Championship (2019) and MAAC Semifinals (2019, 2021)

- Earning All-MAAC First Team honors as a senior in 2021, Nicole Legg returns as a graduate student

- Aryanah Diaz returns for her senior campaign after leading the Bobcats and ranking eighth in the MAAC with 293 kills in 2021
- Diaz tallied 339 digs in 2021, the second most on the team
