Bobcats' Sophomore Defenseman Posts Career-Highs in Breakout Season
HAMDEN, Conn. - Quinnipiac men's ice hockey continued its 2019-20 awards presentation Thursday as sophomore Zach Metsa (Delafield, Wisconsin) was presented the team's 7th Player Award, as voted on by the program's coaches.
Metsa received the award for the first time in his career after his tremendous sophomore season for the Bobcats that made a big impact on the success of the team.
He broke out for career-highs with five goals, 12 assists, 17 points, 39 blocked shots and posted a +9 plus/minus rating. Metsa played in all 34 games for the Bobcats and committed just one penalty all season.
Metsa played his way into a top-four defenseman role after splitting time between forward and defenseman as a first year in 2018-19 where he scored two goals and added two assists.
In his career, Metsa has seven goals and 14 assists in 66 games and has committed just three penalties in that time. He also has a +11 plus/minus rating to go with 51 blocked shots.
