Golf Sits in Third Place after Opening Round of MAAC Championships

Lai and Tobia Lead Way Individually for Bobcats
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - Through one round of play at the 2019 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship tournament, the Quinnipiac women's golf team (+24) sits in third place overall behind Albany (+12) and Dayton (+18).
Queenie Lai, Luciana Tobia, and Alexandra Sazhin are all inside the top-15 on the individual scoreboard after Thursday's opening round.
The championship continues with round two tomorrow, at 7:30 a.m., with the championship round being broadcast on ESPN3 on Saturday, April 20, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

ROUND ONE RECAP
- Lai paced the Bobcats once again and was particularly strong on the back nine as she posted eight straight pars before knocking in a putt for birdie on the 9th hole (round started on hole 10).
- Lai birdied the 13th hole as well, finishing with two birdies, 12 pars, and just four bogeys in the round for a +2, 74. She enters the second round just one shot behind Albany's Annika Espino.
- Luciana Tobia opened up the championship with a strong starting effort. The senior was -2 through six holes, with two birdies and four pars, and added five more pars down the stretch to post a +6, 78, in the first round, good for 12th place.
- Alexandra Sazhin was the third Bobcat to post a sub-80 round at Magnolia Golf Course. The junior birdied the 2nd and 14th holes and closed strong with a +2, 38, on her back nine. Her +7, 79, has her in tie for 13th on the individual scoreboard.
- Elena Lopez was one of three Quinnipiac golfers to post two birdies in the round, as she birdied the first hole and the ninth hole that she played on Thursday. Her nine pars placed her in 29th after round one with a +12, 84.
- Elena Ybarra also birdied the 2nd hole as part of a +4, 40 on her back nine. She played her front nine in 41 strokes, +5, to post a +9, 81, in the first round. Ybarra finished in a tie for 20th overall through Thursday's action.
