Bobcats Head Into Final Regular Season in Top Five of Both National Polls
USCHO.COM DIVISION I MEN'S POLL
USA TODAY/USA HOCKEY MAGAZINE MEN'S COLLEGE HOCKEY POLL
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team moved back into the top five of the national rankings of both polls, as released on Monday afternoon.
Quinnipiac remained No. 5 in the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll, increasing to 781 points. The Bobcats moved up once again to No. 5 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll, receiving 364 points in the poll which is up 18 points.
As of Feb. 25, the Bobcats are also No. 6 in the PairWise rankings, which serves as a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament. The PWR compares all teams by these criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, and the RPI.
Quinnipiac split the weekend as the Bobcats trounced St. Lawrence, 7-2, before falling to then-No. 12/13 Clarkson in the weekend finale, 5-3.
Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) scored three goals on the weekend as he broke the program record for goals by a defenseman with his 39th career goal. Priskie now has 17 goals and 39 points on the season, putting him one point shy of 40 on the season which would be the first 40-point season by a Quinnipiac defenseman since Reid Cashman '07 in 2006-07.
Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) recorded his first career hat trick and a four-point weekend on his way to being named the ECAC Hockey Rookie of the Week for a third time this season.
Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) recorded two assists to become Quinnipiac's first 40-point scorer on the season with 41 points. He is the first Quinnipiac player with back-to-back 40-point season since Cashman had three straight from 2004-07.
The Bobcats return to the ice on Friday night as they travel to Meehan Auditorium in Providence, Rhode Island, to face Brown before returning to New Haven, Connecticut, to face Yale on Saturday night at Ingalls Rink in the final regular season weekend of ECAC Hockey play.
