Bobcats Also No. 6 in PairWise Rankings in Search of Return to NCAA Tournament
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team moved back into the Top Five of the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll in the latest national rankings release on Monday, Feb. 18.
Quinnipiac moved up a spot from No. 6 in the poll after going 1-0-1 on the weekend while the Bobcats fell from No. 5 to No. 6 in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll. The Bobcats moved up seven points to 779 in the USCHO Poll but lost 15 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, falling to 346.
As of Feb. 18, the Bobcats are also No. 6 in the PairWise rankings, which serves as a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament. The PWR compares all teams by these criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, and the RPI.
The Bobcats are coming off a three-point weekend in ECAC Hockey play with an overtime tie at No. 20 Union on Friday night before coming from behind to beat Rensselaer on Saturday. With the three-point weekend coupled by a one-point weekend from Cornell, Quinnipiac sits just one point behind the Big Red for first in ECAC Hockey.
Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota) extended his point streak to a career-high six games with an assist Friday and the game-winning goal on Saturday. Tufto's 80 points over the past two seasons are the fifth-most in the nation while he ranks fourth with 39 points this season.
Daniel Winslow (Fairfield, Connecticut) scored his fourth goal of the season for the Bobcats while Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) added his ECAC Hockey rookie-leading 11th goal of the season in Friday night's tie.
Once again, Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) was stellar between the pipes as he allowed one goal in each game, moving his total games with one goal or fewer to 12. He still leads the nation with a .949 save percentage and 1.28 GAA while he leads ECAC Hockey with a .789 winning percentage and is tied for second with four shutouts and 14 wins.
Quinnipiac is home for its final regular season home series this weekend as the Bobcats host St. Lawrence Friday night at 7 p.m. before facing No. 12/13 Clarkson on Senior Night with puck drop set for 7 p.m. on Saturday.
