Bobcats Remain in Top 10 of National Polls for Fifth Straight Week
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team remained in the top 10 of the national polls as the Bobcats were ranked No. 6 in both the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll, as announced by the organizations on Monday.
The Bobcats fell in the polls for the first time since cracking the rankings earlier this season but only received four fewer votes in the USCHO Poll from the poll released on Dec. 10. Quinnipiac fell to 352 points from 431 from the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll.
Quinnipiac has now been ranked in the top 10 of both national polls for five consecutive weeks since Nov. 19.
As of Jan. 7, the Bobcats are also No. 5 in the PairWise rankings, which serves as a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament. The PWR compares all teams by these criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, and the RPI.
Quinnipiac was 0-1-1 on the weekend but picked up a point in league play for a 14th consecutive league series. Both games went to overtime, with the Bobcats falling to Colgate Friday night 5-4 before tying then-No. 20 Cornell, 2-2, on Saturday.
Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) recorded 30 saves for the third time this season in Quinnipiac's tie with Cornell. He leads the nation with a 0.97 GAA and .961 save percentage.
Brandon Fortunato (North Hills, New York) paced the Bobcats with three assists on the weekend, tallying his second three-plus assist game on the season to give him 16 assists and 18 points.
Odeen Tufto (Chaska, Minnesota), Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) and William Fällström (Stockholm, Sweden) all had a goal and an assist for the Bobcats while Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) had a pair of assists.
The No. 6/6 Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team returns to action this weekend with their second straight home ECAC Hockey weekend, hosting Dartmouth at 7 p.m. on Friday night before taking on Harvard Saturday night at 7 p.m.
