Bobcats Crack Top Five for First Time Since Nov. 21, 2016
USCHO.COM DIVISION I MEN'S POLL
USA TODAY/USA HOCKEY MAGAZINE MEN'S COLLEGE HOCKEY POLL
HAMDEN, Conn. – The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team is back in the top five of the national rankings for the first time since 2016 as the Bobcats are ranked No. 5 in both national polls.
Quinnipiac climbed up three spots in both the USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Coaches Poll to reach the top five after passing Ohio State, Notre Dame and Denver to crack the top five.
The Bobcats received 75 more points from the previous week in the USCHO Poll, up to 762 points and had 353 points in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll, up 66 points from 287 the previous week.
As of Dec. 10, the Bobcats are also No. 5 in the PairWise rankings, which serves as a system which attempts to mimic the method used by the NCAA Selection Committee to determine participants for the NCAA Division I men's hockey tournament. The PWR compares all teams by these criteria: record against common opponents, head-to-head competition, and the RPI.
Quinnipiac is coming off a weekend split with then-No. 1/2 UMass, recording a 4-0 shutout on Friday night before the Bobcats' seven-game winning streak was snapped on Saturday in a 3-1 loss in Amherst.
ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) was spectacular Friday night has he recorded 32 saves in his third shutout of the season, lowering his GAA to 0.83 and raising his save percentage to .966.
Craig Martin (Trail, British Columbia) tallied two goals Friday night for his second straight game while Wyatt Bongiovanni (Birmingham, Michigan) and Zach Metsa (Delafield, Wisconsin) also scored goals for the Bobcats.
Chase Priskie (Pembroke Pines, Florida) scored his league-leading 12th goal of the season and seventh power-play goal of the season Saturday night at UMass, and added an assist on Friday for 21 points, eclipsing 20 points for a fourth straight season. Priskie's 12 goals before Christmas are the most by a defenseman over the past six seasons.
The Bobcats return to the ice on Saturday, Dec. 29 with a non-conference game against the Colgate Raiders. Puck drop is set for 5 PM at NYCB Live, The Home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
