HAMDEN, Conn. - Senior Elizabeth Kloos (Munster, Ind.) was named the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 1 team in a vote of the district's sports information directors, it was announced today.
Kloos is a four-year starting middle hitter and a two-year captain for the Bobcats. She has led Quinnipiac to back-to-back 10-win seasons in her two years as a captain, the first time the program has accomplished that feat at the Division I level. Last year, she helped Quinnipiac to a 21-win season, which more than doubled Quinnipiac's previous high-water mark since becoming full Division I members in 2000 (10 in 2000 and 2002).
After hitting .301 as a junior, Kloos was named to the Preseason All-MAAC team in August and was well on her way to earning postseason honors as well, hitting .446 in the first five conference matches to help Quinnipiac off to a 4-1 start. However, she was sidelined by a broken ankle in practice on Sept. 28, and after initial concerns her career was over, Kloos was able to make a dramatic comeback on her Senior Day on Saturday. With the Bobcats locked in a battle with Canisius for the final MAAC playoff bid, Kloos came off the bench to record four kills in 12 attempts and give Quinnipiac an emotional lift and help it to a 3-1 win and a spot in the postseason.
An accounting major with a minor in computer information systems, Kloos carries a 3.93 grade point average and is a Quinnipiac School of Business Dean's List recipient and a Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Society member She has also been active in community service with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and helped Quinnipiac volleyball finish in first in the school's Positive Play Challenge a year ago.
By earning all-district honors, Kloos will be eligible for national Academic All-America consideration, which will be voted on later this month. She and the Bobcats begin postseason play tomorrow when they take on Iona at 5 p.m. in the opening round of the MAAC Tournament, which is hosted by Fairfield.
