The Quinnipiac men's tennis team will finally return to the court on Friday, Apr. 8 at 4 PM as they host the Sacred Heart Pioneers at QU Outdoor Tennis Courts (location changed). Saturday's match against ASA College has been postponed with no makeup date announced.
All-Time vs. Sacred Heart
Quinnipiac is 12-5 in 17 all-time meetings between the two programs dating back to the beginning of their time competing in the Northeast Conference. The Bobcats have won four straight matches over the past four season against the Pioneers, including a 7-0 sweep last season on Apr. 1. Kei Ezaka and Willem van Biezen each won two individual matches against the Pioneers.
Scouting the Pioneers
Sacred Heart is 6-10 this season and 1-1 in NEC play but have lost their last three matches overall dating back to March 23 at Fairleigh Dickinson. Mathieu Pilote leads the team with 12 singles victories while Cory Seltman is second on the team with 11 and Derek Chapman is second with 10. Brian Power has been the No. 1 singles player all season, posting a record of 8-16. Scouting the Avengers
ASA College is competing in one of its first matches of the season on Saturday against the Bobcats. Just like its women's team, ASA has won two straight NJCAA Division I National Championships. In addition, the Avengers won all three doubles titles and three of the six singles titles.
Last Time Out
The Bobcats swept the Niagara Purple Eagles, 7-0, on senior day last Saturday to improve to 10-6 and 3-0 in the MAAC on the season. All six players in the lineup won two matches for the Bobcats in the win.
MAAC Tennis Player of the Week
With his sixth consecutive individual match win, Jonas Kuwert was named the MAAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week for the second time this season. Kuwert also picked up his 20th win of the season in the match for the Bobcats.
Major Kei
The Bobcats No. 1 singles tennis player continued his reign at the top for the Bobcats as he won his 27th match of the season, including 13th in singles play and 14th in doubles play. Ezaka now has 97 wins in his career, looking to become the seventh player in program history. He would join Roser as the second player to achieve the feat this season.
Mystery Machine
Freddie Zaretsky returned to the court for the Bobcats in style as he won a match at No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles to continue his impressive freshman season. Zaretsky has won 27 matches this season in his first year in Hamden, including 12 singles wins and 15 doubles wins.
Big Daddy
Julian Rozenstein has been one of the best Bobcats' players in the past several matches, boosting his season total to 27 as well, with 19 singles wins and eight doubles wins. Rozenstein is one singles victory away from tying his career-high of 20 set last season. In his career, Rozenstein has already won 61 matches.
Burnin' Up
Jonas Kuwert continues to be a force to be reckoned with for the Bobcats as he won his 20th match of the season. Kuwert has won at least 20 matches in each season since he came to the Bobcats and has anchored the Bobcats in both singles and doubles.
The Force is Strong with this One
Luke Roser continues to rack up the wins for the Bobcats as he picked up his 34th victory of the season, with 13 coming in singles play and 21 coming in doubles. Overall, Roser is 34-14 this season and has won 108 matches in his career. Roser's 108 wins are good for 5th in program history.
Two for the Money
Ryoma Haraguchi entered the lineup for the Bobcats and cruised to two wins, including an impressive 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 6 singles. Haraguchi has 16 wins this season, including eight each in singles and doubles. His 16 wins are the second most he has recorded in a season and is just four wins shy of his single-season career-high.
Coming Down the Pipe
The Bobcats will host the Marist Red Foxes and Monmouth Hawks in their final two home matches of the season on Apr. 12 and 14. Quinnipiac will face Marist at 3 PM on Apr. 12 followed by a 3 PM match against Monmouth on Apr. 14.
