HAMDEN, Conn. - Sophomore attack Brian Feldman (Canandaigua, N.Y.) was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row, it was announced today by the conference office.
Feldman earned the honor this week after scoring a career-high seven goals in a dominant 17-9 win over Canisius on Saturday. The win enabled the Bobcats to remain alone in first place in the conference standings at 4-0 and leave them just one win away (with two games left) from clinching the regular season title outright.
The seven-goal total surpassed Feldman's previous high of five, which he had accomplished on three occasions, including last week at Detroit, when he also added three assists to set a career-best with eight points, earning his first MAAC Offensive Player of the Week Award. He reached the 50-goal mark in his two-year career with his first goal of the game and finished the day with 56, putting him well ahead of pace to become only the fourth player in school history to reach 100 career goals.
Feldman completed his 11th career hat trick in the second quarter, helping the Bobcats surge out to a 10-4 lead at the break. He then came up big in the second half to thwart any Canisius comeback hopes, scoring the first four Quinnipiac goals of the second half, the last of which made the score 14-7 early in the fourth quarter. His shot creation was particularly impressive, as six of his seven goals were unassisted.
The Offensive Player of the Week honor marks the seventh different honor for the Bobcats this season from the MAAC from four different players. Junior goalie Jack Brust (Baltimore, Md.) has earned the Defensive Player of the Week three times, while sophomore faceoff specialist Will Vitelli (Milford, Conn.) was the Offensive Player of the Week once and freshman attack Matt Frost (Spring Lake, N.J.) earned the Rookie of the Week honor once.
Quinnipiac returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Monmouth for a 1 p.m. contest with a chance to wrap up the top seed and the right to host the MAAC Tournament with a win. The Bobcats could also clinch the right to host the tournament (on May 5-7) with a home win over Manhattan in their regular season finale on April 30 at QU Lacrosse Turf Complex.
