
QU Men's Ice Hockey Ranked 2nd In USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll

The Quinnipiac men's ice hockey team was ranked No. 2 in the first USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll of the 2016-17 season. The Bobcats were previously picked No. 2 in the USCHO.com preseason poll and were picked to win ECAC Hockey in the preseason media and coaches polls.
Quinnipiac saw its first action of the season on Saturday, Oct. 1 when it hosted McGill for an exhbition game at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center. K.J. Tiefenwerth (Bellmore, New York) and Landon Smith (Greenwood Village, Colorado) both scored for the Bobcats while Tommy Schutt (Chanhassen, Minnesota), Connor Clifton (Matawan, New Jersey), Kevin Duane (New Canaan, Connecticut) and Tanner MacMaster (Calgary, Alberta) all had assists.
All three goalies on the Bobcats' roster saw a period of action, with 2015-16 transfer Chris Truehl (Madison, Wisconsin) picking up the win after stopping all seven shots that she saw over the final 20 minutes of action. Freshman Andrew Shortridge (Anchorage, Alaska) got the start in his first collegiate appearance, stacking up four saves in the first frame. He gave way to junior Sean Lawrence (Granite Bay, California) who stopped four of McGill's five shots on goal in the middle period.
Quinnipiac opens the regular season this weekend with a two-game series against No. 15/14 Northeastern on Oct. 7-8 at High Point Solutions Arena at the TD Bank Sports Center.
