HAMDEN, Connecticut - Quinnipiac women's basketball senior point guard Gillian Abshire was recently featured in an article written by New Haven Register sports report Chris Hunn on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. The article entitled "Gillian Abshire, Quinnipiac ready to attack the MAAC," discussed Abshire's standout four-year career manning the helm for the Bobcats while also previewing the upcoming MAAC Tournament.
Abshire has been a marvel of consistency over her four years at Quinnipiac, improving every season and blossoming into an elite performer this season at the point guard position. Her 5.8 points and 3.3 rebounds per game may not stand out but her 6.1 assists and 4.04 assist-to-turnover ratio help to distinguish her from the rest. Those gaudy numbers put her atop the national leaderboard for assist-to-turnover ratio while also ranking 15th in the nation in assists per game despite playing averaging a mere 23.7 minutes per game.
Quinnipiac finished 28-3 overall and 20-0 in league play to earn the 2014-15 MAAC Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament. The Bobcats became the first MAAC school to finish 20-0 in league play and just the sixth team in conference history (est. 1980) to finish undefeated in conference play. Quinnipiac enters the tournament riding an 18-game winning streak while also receiving votes both the Associated Press (AP) National Top 25 Poll as well as the USA Today Coaches' Poll.
