QUINNIPIAC TRAVELS TO ARMY
The Quinnipiac University men's soccer team hits the road this weekend to face the Army in West Point, N.Y. After earning their first victory of the season, the Bobcats will play the Black Knights on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 7 p.m. on the Army Soccer Field.

ALL-TIME AGAINST ARMY
Quinnipiac has owned the all-time series against Army going 3-0-1 with the lone tie coming in 2013. The first meeting between the two clubs was back in 2004 where the Bobcats scored in overtime to claim a 1-0 victory in Hamden. Quinnipiac made it two straight overtime wins against the Black Knights with a 3-2 victory in 2007, and then followed with a 1-0 triumph in 2009. Last season, the two teams played to a 0-0 tie behind Borja Angoitia's season high 10 saves.
SCOUTING THE BLACK KNIGHTS
Army comes into the game with a 2-1-1 record including 1-0 wins in the season opener against Fairfield and in their most recent game, an overtime victory over Binghamton. The Black Knights loss came at the hands of St. Joseph, 1-0. Air Force was able to secure a 0-0 tie on the Army Soccer Field in the third contest of the season.
Army had two players recognized for Patriot League weekly honors. Senior Winston Boldt was chosen as Goalkeeper of the Week after allowing one goal over three games and contributing 11 saves. Rookie of the Week honors were awarded to freshman Mario Da Silva after he scored his first career goal in the opener.
LAST TIME OUT
The Bobcats earned their first win of the season and first all-time victory against a BIG EAST opponent at the QU Soccer Field this past weekend. After being held scoreless in their first three
contests, Quinnipiac beat Providence College, 3-1.
SHAQ ATTACK
Freshman Shaquille Huggins scored his first career goal on a header off the assist from James Greco against Providence (9/7).
BAKER'S 20
With the game tied at one, forward Machel Baker secured the game-winner following a beautiful feed from freshman Max Rothenbuecher in the win over Providence (9/7). With the goal, Baker notched the 20th point of his career.
THE JAMES CONNECTION
James Doig capped of the scoring against Providence (8/30) with his first career goal. Junior transfer, James Greco fed Doig for the goal and was credited with his second assist of the game and career.

The Quinnipiac University men's soccer team was tabbed second in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll.

MAAC PRESEASON HONORS
The Bobcats saw three players recognized by the All-MAAC preseason team. Goalkeeper Borja Angoitia earned recognition for the second consecutive season after being named MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year in 2013. Angoitia posted a record of 7-4-7 and was 17th in the country with a .698 goals against average as a junior. He also set a new program record with 10 shutouts and finished second in QU single-season history with his goals against average (0.70) and tied for sixth with a .843 save percentage. Defender Tobias Esche also found his name on the list after being named to the All-MAAC First Team last season. Esche recorded a goal and two assists while aiding fellow captain Angoitia in leading Quinnipiac's stellar defense. Senior forward Machel Baker finished the year second on the team in points (10) and goals (4) while adding two assists. Baker's play led to him being selected to the All-MAAC Second Team and finding a spot on this year's preseason team.
THE DEFENSE
With the help of captains Angoitia and Esche, QU will look to center back Erik Panzer and outside backs Ashton Pett and Stevenson Hawkey to complete the defensive unit that recorded 11 clean sheets last year.
THE ATTACK
In addition to Baker, returnees, All-Rookie Team selection James Doig and senior Raphael Carvalho (Danbury, Conn.) will anchor the middle of the field for the Bobcats. Doig started in all 19 games he appeared in and handed out three assists, while Carvalho started in all 21 games and had one assist. These three will look to fill the void left by departed All-MAAC First Teamer and points leader Simon Hinde (10 goals, one assist) and assist leader and All-MAAC Second Teamer, Sam Nicol (two goals, four assists).
2013 MAAC REGULAR-SEASON CHAMPIONS
The 2013 Quinnipiac University men's soccer team (9-5-7, 7-1-2 MAAC) won six straight games to close out the regular-season and claimed a share of the MAAC title. Needing a win in their final game, senior co-captain Simon Hinde found the back of the net in the 105th minute of an overtime thriller against Rider. The Bobcats earned their second straight regular season title after winning the Northeast last year and garnering the first title in program history.
2013 MAAC CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONS
Quinnipiac improved to a 9-4-5 overall record before heading into the conference tournament. The nine wins are tied for the second most wins in a single-season during the Division I era, and third most all-time. They began postseason play as the number two seed and were set to face number three Iona in a semifinal matchup. The game entered penalty kicks tied at one before the Bobcats pulled out a narrow shootout victory (7-6). In the MAAC Championship against number one seed Monmouth, Quinnipiac saw penalty kick action for the second consecutive game. After regulation and two overtimes, the score remained at zero before the MAAC Goalkeeper of the Year, Borja Angoitia saved two penalty shots and sealed a 4-3 win.
ON DECK
The Bobcats return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 17th with their second consecutive road contest at 7:05 p.m. Quinnipiac will travel to Worcester, Mass. to face the Holy Cross Crusaders at the Holy Cross Soccer Field. Last season, the Bobcats bested the Crusaders at home, 1-0. The goal came on a penalty kick from former QU standout, Simon Hinde.
