Central Connecticut comes into Hamden tied for last place
in the NEC with a 1-5-3 NEC (4-9-3 Overall) record. In its last
contest on October 31, Central Connecticut tied St. Francis (N.Y.),
2-2, as senior's Robert Cavener and Connor Smith each netted a
goal. Cavener is the team-leader in points with 10 (three goals,
four assists), while Smith is third on the team with five points
(two goals, one assist). Sophomore goalkeeper Anthony Occialini has
made 50 saves on the season for the Blue Devils, compiling a .746
save percentage and a 1.10 goals-against average.
All-Time Against The Blue Devils
Friday's contest will be the 12th time the two squads will
have faced each other. In their last meeting on November 6, 2009,
Quinnipiac defeated Central Connecticut 1-0. Freshman forward Philip
Suprise (Milwaukee, Wis.) scored the game-winning goal in the
82nd minute of play on an assist from junior midfielder Dominic
Adams (John Dial, Trinidad and Tobago). The win for the Bobcats
helped them clinch the 3rd seed in the NEC Tournament.
About Monmouth University
Quinnipiac welcomes the 11th ranked team in the country,
and the first-place squad in the NEC, for its final home game of
the season. The Hawks have dominated league play this year, earning
a 6-0-2 NEC record. The Hawks are riding an eight game unbeaten
streak and are coming off a 3-0 victory over Robert Morris on
October, 31. Senior midfielder and reigning NEC player of the week,
Ryan Kinne, leads the charge with a team-high 12 goals scored. His
28 points are both a team and league best. In goal for the Hawks is
senior goalkeeper Bryan Meredith, who has an incredible .45
goals-against average and a .857 save percentage on the season.
All-Time Against The Hawks
Sunday's game will be the 13th time the two teams will
have faced each other and the first time they will have squared off
since the 2009 NEC Championship game. On November, 15, Monmouth
defeated Quinnipiac 2-1 to earn its first NEC title since 2005.
Senior forward Shane
Recklet scored the Bobcats lone goal in the 61st minute of
play.
Last Time Out
Quinnipiac was defeated, 3-2, by Long Island University on
Sunday, Oct. 31 in Brooklyn, N.Y. Suprise and sophomore forward William
Daniels (Bethany, Conn.) each tallied two first half goals for
the Bobcats. Sophomore defender William
Cavallo (Londonderry, N.H.) earned his first assist of the
season on Daniels' goal.
Forward March
The scores for Suprise and Daniels against Long Island
were the third and second of the season, respectively, for the
forwards, as these numbers rank first and second on the team for
strikers.
Redemption Song
Quinnipiac will look to make a mark on Monmouth's unblemished NEC
record in its final game of the season. The Bobcats have not
defeated the Hawks since 2004; however six of the last seven games
have been decided by one goal or fewer.
