
Men's Tennis Defeats NEC Foe Monmouth, 5-2

HAMDEN, Conn. Tom Curran (Fairfield, Conn.) and Joe Nuara (Little Silver, N.J.) were double-winners as the Quinnipiac men's tennis team defeated Northeast Conference foe Monmouth, 5-2, Friday afternoon on the Quinnipiac Outdoor Tennis Courts. With the win, the Bobcats improve to 4-8 (1-1 NEC).
The match began with singles play in light of a threatening weather forecast. Curran defeated Vik Gupta, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 5 singles, while Nuara took down Tim McLane by the same 6-3, 6-2, score at No. 6. The duo secured the double-win with a doubles victory at No. 3, 8-3, against Gupta and Pedro Bruno.
Brian Mikkelson (Mequon, Wis.) defeated Tom Corrie, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2 singles, while Sean Pease finished off four Quinnipiac singles wins with a 6-1, 6-2, decision against Corey Forrest.
Scott Salway (Glastonbury, Conn.) and John Hughes (Springfield, Mass.) paired to defeat McLane and Forrest at No. 2 doubles, 8-2.
The Bobcats conclude the home portion of their schedule Sunday, when they play host to intrastate conference foe Sacred Heart. The Bobcats' lone senior, Salway, will be honored during Senior Day ceremonies to precede the match.
