One of the finest defensive catchers in school history, Gene Zurolo played three seasons and led the baseball team to 48 victories from 1967–69. Zurolo captained the 1969 team that finished with a 15–8 record. In 1969, he led the team with a .982 fielding percentage. In 1968, the team finished 19–8 and captured the NAIA District 32 Tournament. Zurolo played in all 27 games and posted a team-best .983 fielding percentage.
